Mary Jo Peters, age 90, of Potter, Nebraska, passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, May 31, 2026. A private memorial service will be held at a later date; cremation has taken place.You may view Mary Jo’s Book of Memories and leave condolences, photos, and stories at www.gehrigstittchapel.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to your choice of St.

Mary Jo was born on May 5, 1936, to Dennis and Faye (Cortney)Walsh. She attended Meadow Lawn School District #70 west of Dalton through the eighth grade and graduated from St. Patrick’s Academy in Sidney, Nebraska. She attended Chadron State College, where she earned her teaching certificate, and then taught at the Brownson School west of Sidney. In 1956, she married Jay Peters.To this union, six children were born: Margaret, Dennis, Karen, Diane, Connie, and Ann Marie.

Mary Jo loved life on the farm and spent more than 55 years working alongside Jay in their farming and cattle operation west of Dalton. Following Jay’s death in 2012, she moved to Potter, where she enjoyed gardening, caring for her houseplants, and spending time with a good book.

Mary Jo’s lifelong passions were playing and watching sports, especially anything and everything Nebraska Cornhuskers, and supporting her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. It didn’t matter what the occasion was; if it was important to her family, it was important to Mary Jo.

Whether in the audience, in the stands, on the sidelines, or cheering from afar, she was always there with her endless love and support.

Mary Jo was preceded in death by her husband, Jay Peters; son, Dennis Peters; infant daughter, Ann Marie; granddaughter, Sara Russell; brother, JimWalsh; parents, Dennis and Faye (Cortney) Walsh; and in-laws, JC and Minnie (Jahn) Peters,Waco and Betty (Peters) Albert, and Cathy (Maier) Peters.

Mary Jo is survived by her children, Margaret (Bob) Noonan, Karen Peters, Diane (Maury) Horst, Connie (Paul) Pryde, and daughter-in-law Renee Peters; 10 grandchildren: Brad (Hayley) Noonan, Dan (Heather) Noonan, Melisa (Scott) Fesmire, Jordan Peters, Justine (Spencer) Jobman, Amanda (Robby) Reilly, Katherine (Reese) Swatsworth, Cutter (Ashley) Pryde, and Deanna Horst; 20 great-grandchildren; brother-in-law Jack Peters; siblings Kay (Chris) Kachulis, Agnes, Dennis,Tom, and BethWalsh; and numerous nieces and nephews.
