Norman L. Stevens, age 85, of Sidney, Nebraska, passed away on Thursday, August 13, 2026, in Lincoln, NE. Funeral services were held on August 20, 2026, at Holy Trinity Lutheran church in Sidney, NE, with Pastor Brenda Pfeifly officiating.

Burial with Military Honors followed at Weyert’s Cemetery northwest of Lodgepole.

Norman Lee Stevens, the 3rd son of 9 children, was born on November 7, 1940, in Sidney, NE, to Albert and Anna (Frerichs) Stevens. Norm grew up on a farm in Cheyenne County attending District 17 school. The Stevens family attended Immanuel (Weyert’s) Lutheran Church.The family later moved to another farm north of Broadwater, NE, where he finished his primary schooling at Grand Prairie. He then attended and graduated from Broadwater High School in 1959.

After graduation, Norm enlisted in the U.S. Army with several of his high school friends. While stationed at Fort Carson, Colorado, he met his future wife, Delores Morgan, who was employed at the Post Exchange. The couple married in 1962 at the Weyert’s church. This union was blessed with 3 children, Michael, Colleen and Ryan.

After working briefly for Panhandle Drug Supplies, Norm began his career with Kansas-Nebraska Natural Gas Company as a serviceman, installing and repairing furnaces and water heaters. Promoted to regional serviceman, Norm traveled throughout western Nebraska and northern Colorado, working with many colleagues that would become lifelong friends. After being promoted to District Manager, he finished his career in 2002 after 38 years, all of which were based in Sidney.

Norman was an active member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Sidney.

He served many terms on the Church council and was a part of pastoral search committees.

Norm and Delores spent years attending weekly bible studies.

He enjoyed ushering on Sundays and when the church bulletin had listings for “server needed,” he always stepped up to fill the role. When the church had pancake breakfasts, you would often find Norm behind the griddle.

After retirement from the gas company, Norm worked with his friend, Ron Tremain, for 11 years on Ron’s farm, bringing Norm back to his childhood roots. This was a special time for Norm, as he loved being back on the tractor working the land.

Also, during this time, he and Delores enjoyed many trips of cruising and bus tours. Alaska, Canada, and the Panama Canal were some of the stops, but Norm especially enjoyed their month-long trip to the south pacific. Of course, much time was also spent visiting kids and grandkids in Arizona, Nebraska, and Minnesota, in addition to camping out with friends.

Norm enjoyed being the handy man for family and friends in need.Whether it was changing just an outlet or light fixture or finishing a whole basement, he was always happy to lend a hand. Some of Norman’s other hobbies included gardening and maintaining his NFL quality lawn. Morning coffee with the gang was also a big part of Norm’s life.

Norman was preceded in death by his parents, and his brothers Marvin, Dennis, David and Dean.

Survivors include his wife, Delores of Sidney; sons and daughters-in-law Michael and Martha Stevens of Gilbert, AZ and Ryan and Lisa Stevens of Mankato, MN; daughter and son-in-law Colleen and Patrick Gatzemeyer of Lincoln, NE; grandchildren Kimberly, Mia, Nolan, and Nicolus Stevens; Brenden and Nathan Gatzemeyer and Morgan (Gatzemeyer) Martin and husband Chase; brother Dale Stevens, sisters Marlys Hansen, Sharon Kemplin, and Susan Wiegers; and many nieces and nephews.
