She was the oldest child of Victor and Veta Nuss, and was born in Scottsbluff, Nebraska, on July 17, 1946.

Velma grew up in Bridgeport, Nebraska, where she attended school, graduating from Bridgeport High School in 1964. After school while working she met her husband, Norman.They were married on January 8, 1972.

To this union, three children were born, Aimee in 1972, Stacy in 1974, and Jeffery in 1977. After retiring, Velma helped watch her grandchildren and picked up golfing. She was an avid golfer up until the time of her death.

She also enjoyed crocheting and maintaining her many flower beds.

Preceding Velma in death were her parents; her brother

Vern; and in-laws Henry and Cecilia Wemhoff.

She is survived by her husband, Norm; daughter, Aimee (Mark) Thompson; their children, Bailey (Abby, son Knox), Lilly (Josh), and Brady; daughter, Stacy (Frank) Gappa; their children Gage (Hope) and Alyssa; son, Jeffery (Mandy) Wemhoff; their children Lily, Landon, and Lauren.
