Ronald “Ron” Myers, 81

Ronald J. Myers of Bridgeport, Nebraska passed away unexpectedly on May 15, 2023, at the age of 81. A Celebration of his life was held Monday, May 22, with Pastor Jonathan Seng officiating. Military honors were provided by the Nebraska Army National Guard and Sons of the American Legion Post, Bridgeport. His ashes were buried in the Mitchell Cemetery in Mitchell, NE. Ron was born in Blackfoot, Idaho, on April 19, 1942, to Homer John and Evelyn June (Tinney) Myers. He was the oldest of nine children. In his younger years he lived in the Palisade/ Stratton, NE, area.The Myers family later relocated to Broadwater, NE, where he spent his formative years. Ron attended Broadwater schools, graduatin from high school in 1962.

Ron served for almost 2 years in the United States Army from 1965 to 1966 in the Vietnam War. He was honored with numerous medals including The Good Conduct and Rifle Marksman. He was very proud of his service.

Ron later met his wife and love of his life in Broadwater, Dalene Kay Sherman.When he first asked her to marry him, she said no! Thankfully, she finally said yes and they were married on March 29, 1968; they were together for 50 years.

Ron was a jack of all trades!

He could do almost anything if asked. He was the most helpful, hardworking man. He loved to ride horses and work cattle, a true cowboy. At one point in time he was a member of the Broadwater Volunteer Fire Department. Two of his most cherished jobs were working on the Anderson Ranch and the Browns Creek Irrigation District.

When Ron wasn’t working, you could always find him spending time with family and friends. He loved to drink coffee and gossip with his coffee gang in Bridgeport. He enjoyed card games such as Pitch and Pinochle, watching Nebraska football, and in the past a game of baseball or bowling. His team even won 2nd place in a bowling league at one time.

Ron and Dalene had 7 kids, and they also fostered several children over the course of 30 plus years. Kids were the biggest joy in their lives. They were even honored with an award for opening their hearts and home to a countless number of children.

Ron is survived by his children: Tim (Carrie), Clark, Valarie, Jazzariah “Jazz”, Maricella, and Marisol; his brothers, Larry and Kirby, and sister Linda Wiggins. He is also survived by his three grandchildren and his dog, Tucker.

Ron was proceeded in death by his beloved wife, Dalene; his son, Steven; his siblings Tracy, Delia, Sheila, Patrick, and Jon; as well as his parents, Homer and Evelyn.

Ron lived a good long life, where he cherished every moment. Happy Trails, Ronnie!
