The Way (he Hodos)

Beginning in the later twentieth century, says the historian, Christianity took to the argument of the usefulness of Jesus Christ. You ought to be a Christian, not first because the gospel makes sense, but rather because Christianity is good for you. In other words, the majesty and mystery of our grand faith was reduced to pragmatics, believing that Christianity ought to be valued on the basis of its utility—here is something you can use in your daily life, something that is good because it is useful, something that usefully leads you down the “best” path and the way of least resistance.
