Punishing Senator Sasse is not necessary
As a registered independent, party loyalty has never impacted my decision at the ballot box. In fact, all of us are probably independent enough to vote for the person instead of the party.

If it is true that every cowboy sings a sad, sad song, then in Nebraska they all sing the same sad song about protesting their property valuation. Protesting property values in Nebraska is like turning a lump of coal into a diamond. If you squeeze the same lump of coal in your hand all the days of your life, all you will end up with is a dirty hand, and if you protest your property valuation every year, all you will end up with is a pile of filing fee receipts. Getting a decision on a property valuation appeal takes too long.
The Nebraska Legislature has decided to keep secret ballot elections for officers and committee chairs in spite of the protestations of some lawmakers who said it’s all about transparency. I am glad.
Nebraska is a national leader in the quality of our state highway system. This is no accident—Nebraskans take pride in building high-quality infrastructure and understand the importance of connecting our communities to grow our state. For example, Nebraska’s farmers and ranchers led the charge for rural electrification in the 1930s. With their backing, Nebraska Senator George Norris co-sponsored the Rural Electrification Act, which was key to bringing electricity to rural communities throughout the state. Today, we have the opportunity to build next generation infrastructure by expanding reliable, high-speed broadband networks to every corner of Nebraska.
Two words guaranteed to start a discussion anywhere in Nebraska: property tax. Two words guaranteed to escalate that into an argument: local control.
