Artists among us
West Nebraska Arts Center presents their 35th Annual Visionaries Student Art Exhibit in a virtual format at www. thewnac.com this year to celebrate the panhandle youth and their artistic talent. After 35 years of this show, the Center didn’t want to let the Coronavirus pandemic take away from the student’s hard work and ability to showcase their art, so they opened the exhibit up online.
The event is supported by First State Bank, the Nebraska Arts Council and the Nebraska Cultural Endowment and is open to students in grades six through twelve. This year Bayard Schools, Bluffs Middle School, Bridgeport Schools, Minatare, Mitchell and Scottsbluff High Schools participated in the event with 105 entries created by 89 different young artists. Judge Steve Settles, a Chadron State College and University of Denver graduate, chose 21 awards from this year’s entries.
Debbie Millette, Art Teacher at Bridgeport Schools, entered 37 pieces from 29 of her student artists in Junior High and High School, with six Bulldogs taking a winning spot at this year’s event.
