Bombers win in exciting comeback on home field

The Bombers split last week with a win and a loss. In the game Tuesday, June 22 at the Alliance Spartans, an early 5 run lead by the Spartans high octane offense sealed the fate for the Bridgeport Seniors in the first inning. Pitcher Johnny Vargas, Garden County, held Alliance to only a single run in each of the next two innings after settling down, keeping the score a competitive 3-7 in the 4th inning. Holden Shultz, Bridgeport, pitched the final two outs in relief. Shultz, Larry Lofton, Bridgeport, Vargas, Jake Wallesen, Bridgeport, and Scout Gamble of Leyton each managed one hit. The game ended 4-13. Assistant Coach Randall Sigle said, “Alliance and Gering are two of the best Class B teams in the state. The Bombers play probably the toughest schedule of any Class C team in Nebraska, as we only face one opponent in our own class size the entire season, which is Sheridan County. We made some very good plays in our game at Alliance, in spite of the final score.”
