P.E.O. is a philanthropic organization where women celebrate the advancement of women; educate women through scholarships, grants, awards, loans and stewardship; and motivate women to achieve their highest aspirations. Elementary students learn the ukulele

Bridgeport choir director Michaela Babic has been working on a unique and custom-made ukulele program with the elementary students using a variety of resources she found or created. Beginning in the 4th grade, students start with short songs using just the open strings with 2-3 chords at most. In 5th grade, they progress to learning 5-7 chords and put the chords together to make longer songs, while in 6th grade, they learn to accompany a singer or play while they sing at the same time with all the chord progressions. The older grades learn through both group work and individually paced activities. Babic is quite proud of how the program went this year.
