Bulldog staff continue to feed children

The Bridgeport School Dietary staff and administrators have been busy this week preparing lunches for students and their younger siblings. With school out for the foreseeable future, and so many parents relying on school meals to carry their kids throughout the bulk of the day, Bridgeport has stepped up to make meals for the kids and have made them available for pick up five days a week from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at the school, with a breakfast item included for the following morning. Many parents who normally can purchase food for their children are finding it necessary to pick up the free sack lunches due to a decrease in their own paychecks. With hours cut drastically in many local positions or simply the uncertainty of their own jobs and the future of the economy, parents are grateful for the opportunity

Two Bridgeport seniors, both thirteen-year students there, have signed on with music scholarships to study at Chadron State College next year. Leyla Vargas, daughter of Angel Arias and Merisa Juarez, is headed to Chadron on a Music scholarship, the Eagle Presidential scholarship and the Quivey Bay scholarship. She plans to study early childhood education and is currently involved with National Honor Society, One Acts, Speech Club, B-Club, Cheerleading and is a youth worship leader at Gloryland church. She would like to thank her parents, as well as Ms. Loomis, for all their support throughout the years and assistance in making her who she is today.

March is National Music in Our Schools Month and the Bridgeport Bulldogs Music Department knew just what to do for that. They held their annual Supper and Sounds fundraiser on Tuesday evening, March 3rd, to raise money for choir costumes and props, travel expenses for competitions, instruments and repairs. Music parents donated money and all the items needed for the feast; Ron Hoffman smoked up pulled pork for supper while Sharon Hoffman cooked the funeral potatoes into a tasty side dish. The Hoffman are BPS Choral Music Director Michaela Babic’s parents. Desserts were made by students and families, and parent volunteers served up the bounty to the hungry supporters.
