Boys Cross County runners place first at home meet

Bridgeport cross country runners hosted the annual Run at the Rocks Bridgeport Invite on Tuesday last week, with the varsity boys taking the top spot in the day’s 5K event. The Lady Bulldogs placed fourth overall behind Hemingford, Mullen, and Gordon-Rushville. Varsity runner Ron Varner was the sole top ten finish for the men’s division, with a 10th place spot.

Bulldogs celebrate Homecoming with third straight win

The Bridgeport football team capped off Homecoming week in style with a 70-24 victory over visiting Hemingford last Friday night. Scoring was fast and furious for the Bulldogs, who totaled a whopping 10 touchdowns in the game. Senior running back Peyton Abbott led the charge by tying a school record with seven touchdowns of his own. He rushed for six scores and caught another. Abbott ended the game rushing for a career-high 233 yards on just seven carries.

The LeytonWarriors walloped the visiting Morrill Lions football team by a count of 60-8 in the non-league game in Warrior territory last Friday.With that win, Leyton upgraded its record to 1-2 on the season.They travel to Anselomo-Merna to face the Coyotes tomorrow. Both teams go into the game with a 1-2 record.

Bulldogs earn first win of season on gridiron

The Bridgeport High School football team broke into the win column in dominating fashion last Friday night. A run of 58 unanswered points powered the Bulldogs to a 64-6 victory over visiting Maxwell. It marked Bridgeport’s first win of the season after opening with a pair of setbacks to North Platte St. Patrick’s and Perkins County.The Bulldogs also started off with consecutive losses last year before reeling off six straight wins to qualify for the state playoffs.
