Carl Bruce Shaw, Sr., 69

Carl Bruce Shaw, Sr., 69

Carl Bruce Shaw, Sr. of Bridgeport, Nebraska, passed away September 21, 2021, with his loving bride, Cynthia, holding his hand, just a week prior to his 70th birthday.

He was born on September 28, 1951, the third son of Raymond G. Shaw and Minnie Ella (Hudson) Shaw, at St. Joseph Hospital in Alliance, NE.

The CB handle of “Red Rebel” was a perfect fit for Carl, he having no real desire to conform. As a teenage during the 60s he was eager to be a part of the free love mindset. Always with a quick smile and a need to wander, Carl made friends easily wherever his travels took him. He was always eager to swap stories and never lacking of an opinion on politics or the weather or for that matter most anything.

Carl had a wide variety of occupations, from a short stint in the U.S. Air Force, ranch hand, feedlot cowboy, railroad employee, Santa Claus model and probably some that we don’t know about. Probably the career that suited his personality the most was trucker. He was able to travel the country from coast to coast as an over-the-road driver and make friends at every stop.

Carl had many interesting hobbies, mountain man and black powder activities, motorcycles, camping and fishing, cars, wood-working, hunting. The many friends he had appreciated his willingness to help in any way he could.

Carl is survived by his loving wife of eight months, Cynthia Sutton-Shaw of Bridgeport; his three children, Carl Shaw Jr. and wife Jessica (Valentine) of Hyannis, NE, Shannon S. Bell of Scottsbluff, NE, and Jennifer Shaw (Romualdo Rocha) of St. Petersburg, FL; his wife Cynthia’s children, Rachelle (William) Sutton-Corbett and daughter Hailey Anne Sutton of Alliance, Gary VanNatter, Jr. and Eric A. VanNatter of Alliance; his grandchildren, Cheyenne (Beau) Broadway of Lingle, WY, Casey Jean Shaw, Caitlin (Zack) Denny of Bridgeport, Ashley Hall of Scottsbluff, Riley Hall (Sam Hood) of Clinton, NE, and Lauren Hall (Eli Wolf) of Scottsbluff; and and his great-grandchildren, Tripp, Casen, Teagan, Atlas, Skylar and Hayden.

Carl is also survived by his two older brothers (who made his life miserable as a child, being four years their junior), David (Marlene) Shaw and R. Gene Shaw, both of Alliance; his kid sister (who he helped spoil), Ellarae (Gary) Watson of Show Low, AZ; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He also is survived by many friends and partners that have had an impact on his life in numerous ways: Judy (Zimmerman) Buskirk, Nancy (Johnson) Shaw, Barby Kay Leach

Memorial services were held September 28 at Bates-Gould Chapel with burial at the Lakeside Cemetery. Online condolences may be left at www.batesgould.com.
