Georgia Marie Eriksen Lnenicka, 94
Georgia Marie Eriksen Lnenicka, 94 years of age, passed away quietly on October 24, 2021. No memorial service is planned. She will be interred with her late husband at Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, GA.
Georgia was predeceased by her parents and sisters Joan (Pete) Davis and Roberta (Leon) Masser, and her husband Bill. She is survived by her son Wade (Robin) Lnenicka and daughter Susan Johnston of Smyrna, GA, granddaughters Ashley Johnston of Atlanta, GA, and Shannon Motley of Marietta, GA, with great grandchildren Parker Motley and Leighton Motley.
Georgia Marie Eriksen was born on December 19, 1926, in Alliance, Nebraska. She was the oldest of 3 daughters of the late George and Ida Eriksen. Her parents were first generation Americans born of Danish immigrants. Her father, a wounded World War I Army Veteran, was a rural route mail carrier for the US Postal Service. Her mother was a home maker.
Georgia was raised in the small town of Broadwater, Nebraska. She graduated at age 17 from Broadwater High School in December 1943. She then left home and went to work in Washington State. She graduated from a business school in Centralia, WA, while employed full time.
She returned home after World War II to enroll at Chadron State College in Chadron, Nebraska. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Business and English in August 1948.
While at CSC she met Hay Springs, Nebraska native and World War II Army Veteran William J. Lnenicka. They were married in December 1947. Their honeymoon consisted of one night at the Broadwater Hotel before going back to work and school. They remained married for 58 years until his passing in November 305.
Their life together took them to Milford, NE, Lincoln, NE, Kansas City, MO, Manhattan, KS, Norman, OK, and Baton Rouge, LA, before settling in Smyrna, GA, in 1958. She worked full time in various jobs as the family moved around the country. In Smyrna she taught at Campbell High School and Argyle Elementary School. She retired in 1987 as the Chairman of the Business Division at the Cobb-Marietta Vocational Technical School (now Chattahoochee Technical Institute) in Marietta, GA.
Georgia also earned a Master’s Degree in Business Education from Georgia State University in 1969.
Georgia’s passions included playing bridge, traveling, and reading. She always enjoyed being around her friends and family. She loved the wideopen plains of her home state. She was a long-time member of the American Legion Auxiliary and Unit 160 in Smyrna. She was passionate about helping Veterans and supporting the Armed Forces.
