Peggy M. Covalt , 90

Peggy M. Covalt, 90, of Broadwater, Nebraska, passed away on Monday, March 4, 2024, at her home after a long battle with cancer and diabetes. Her Celebration of Life service will be held at the Messiah Lutheran Church in Broadwater at a later date.

Inurnment will be at Rosehill Cemetery. At her request, she was cremated. Memorials may be given to the Volunteer Fire Department of Broadwater. Fond memories and condolences may be left at www.bridgeportmemorialchapel.com.

Peggy was born in Broadwater, NE, to Harry and Ellen (Fulcher) Wilson on November 2, 1933.They moved to the farm and she attended a one-room country school, graduating from Broadwater High School in 1951. She married a rancher, Phillip Covalt, in 1952. To this union four children were born: Ronda Gayle,Valerie Jane, Terry Marie and Dallas Grant. Peggy was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Broadwater until it was combined with the Messiah Lutheran Church, which she continued to attend.

She was an active extension club member of the Sandhill Belles. She was an EMT member of the Broadwater Fire Department and taught CPR. She also had numerous other jobs.

She enjoyed playing cards, dancing, baking, puzzles and visiting with family and friends. Also, she liked to travel with Phil and the kids.

Later, as empty nesters, they took many trips together, including cruises and bus tours. They recently celebrated 72 years of marriage, filled with memories and pictures of years gone by.

Her passion for sewing spanned many years and at least 3 sewing machines!You could often find her at the kitchen table—sewing. She was a master seamstress, producing many dresses and outfits for her children, from prom and bridesmaid dresses, to western outfits and school clothes.

“Grandma Peggy” started her tradition of making baby blankets, first for her grandchildren and then great-grandchildren. Over the years she produced and presented 46 gingham blankets in every color. She truly loved seeing them again every time the littles showed up dragging the blankets behind them.

Most of all, she loved her family and attended as many events as she could. She will be missed but will always be in our hearts and spirits.

Peggy is survived by her husband; children Ronda (Paul) Yates, Terry (Bob) Rothwell, and Dallas (Tammy) Covalt; grandchildren: Lindsey Schafer, Anson Furman, Dever Yates, Cade (Lacey) Yates, Kyla (Mike) Wesch, Mason (Chrissy) Rothwell, Whitney (Kailin) Rothwell, Brenna (Troy) Hobson, Dylan (Laurel) Covalt, Seth (Megan) Covalt, Alex (Kate) Covalt, Taylor (Marissa) Covalt; 32 great-grandchildren; brother- in-law LaMond Lessman; son-in-law Dave Furman.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers Lewis (Eloise) Wilson, Don (Nancy) Wilson; sisters Rita (Al) Ring, Ellen Mae Lessman; daughter Valerie Furman; granddaughter Cassie Furman Rudolph; and great-grandson Oliver Hobson.
