Texie Lee Cousins, 88

Texie Lee (Juelfs) Cousins was born December 5, 1934, in Scottsbluff, NE. She passed on October 6, 2023, two months shy of her 89th birthday. Her funeral was held on October 21, 2023 in Burnsville, MN.

Texie attended grade school at the country school near the Juelfs ranch in western Nebraska, graduating from 8th grade in 1948. She talked about riding a horse to school with her brother Rich. She graduated from Bridgeport High School in 1952. She went to Colorado A&M in ’52-53, majoring in Home Economics. In the summer of 1953, she earned a teaching certificate and taught in a country school in Cheyenne, CO, from 1953-1954. She then went to Rapid City, SD, where she met Bill Schrag in 1956.They both attended school at South Dakota State College from 1957- 1959. They married in St Paul, MN, in 1959.

They went on to have three children and lived in Florida, Pennsylvania, Colorado, and Minnesota. She worked as a tailor while her kids were in school, with a home shop in the basement. In the 1980s she followed her passion for feeding people, developed her catering business and worked in the church kitchen. She loved to cook and bake and spend time with her family. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the light in her life. She and Bill divorced in 1985.

Texie met Ray Cousins through the Prince of Peace SOS group. On September 2, 1988, they were married at Prince of Peace in Burnsville, MN, and lived there for 35 years.

Texie had many adventures; she traveled to France and went to cooking school with her college friend Phylis. She met her son Tom in Ireland for a grand tour of Ireland.Texie and Ray traveled to British Columbia, Nebraska and Arizona to see Texie’s relatives.Texie loved to take pictures and came back with amazing photos of her travels.

She will be missed by all who knew her.

She leaves behind her loving husband Raymond Cousins; her children: Barbara (Schrag) and her husband Randy Gerard, Susan (Schrag) and her husband David Eaton; her 5 grandchildren: Angela (Eaton) and husband Joseph Saucerman, Erin Gerard, James Eaton and Raine Nolan, Adam Gerard, and Catherine Eaton; her great-grandchildren, Finnley Nolan and Roman Saucerman; her brother Bill (Carol) Juelfs; her nephews and their children; Ray’s children and grandchildren: Julie (Mike) McMann, Jamie and Ryan and their families.
