Timothy J. Barr, 63

Timothy Joe Barr was born on December 8, 1959, in Grinnell, Iowa, to Frank and Karen (Callison) Barr, the oldest of two sons. He peacefully entered into eternal rest on Friday, July 28, 2023, at his residence in Bridgeport, Nebraska, at the age of 63 years, 7 months, 20 days, following a lengthy battle with cancer.

As a youngster, Tim attended elementary school in Kellogg, Iowa, and junior high and high school in Newton, Iowa, until his junior year, when he moved to Coin, Iowa, and later to Shenandoah, Iowa, to live with his mom and stepdad, Max. He graduated from Shenandoah High School with the Class of 1978.

Following high school, Tim

began his employment with the City of Shenandoah in 1979, working in the Water Department for the majority of his over 40-year career. He earned the Operator of theYear Award for Region IV of the American Water Works Association in 2009.

He was forced to retire in 2021 when his health began to fail.

Tim was also an active, and later a reserve member of the Iowa National Guard.

In May of 1985,Tim married Patricia Walters in Shenandoah, and to this union their son, Matthew Alan, was born on July 3, 1988.Tim and Pat divorced in 2011. Tim delighted in being a grandpa to grandsons, Kegan and Liam Max, and supporting them in their activities. One of Tim’s greatest passions was his involvement in the Southwest Iowa Theatre Group. He spent countless hours working behind the scenes, directing, and acting in plays. He treasured the friendships he made with his Theatre Group family.

Preceding Tim in death were his father, Frank Barr; infant brother, Jeffrey Dale Barr in 1958; former wife, Pat Barr; and his stepdad, Max Cumming.

He is survived by his son, Matt Barr (Nina Todd) of Omaha, NE; mother, Karen Cumming of Bridgeport, NE; brother, Tom (Becky) Barr of Shenandoah, IA; sister, Billie (Parker) Smith of Bridgeport, NE; two grandsons, Kegan and Liam of Omaha, NE; numerous nephews, aunts and cousins; other relatives; and countless friends.

At his request, cremation has taken place and there will be no services. Memorials in Tim’s name are being directed to People For Paws, 809 W.Valley Ave., Shenandoah, IA, 51601, an animal care organization that was near to Tim’s heart. Cremation services were entrusted to Nishna Valley Funeral and Cremation Service in Shenandoah.
