Obituaries

Vernon S. Randolph, fondly known as Randy, passed away on August 25, 2022, at Hemingford, Nebraska, at the age of 96 years. His memorial service was held on Monday, August 29, 2022, at the Church of Christ in Minatare, NE.

Services will be livestreamed on Bridgman Funeral Home’s Facebook Page. Cremation has taken place per his request. It is respectfully requested that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to the Church of Christ in Minatare.

Randy was born to Frank and Emma (Bradley) Randolph on January 20, 1926, in Tulsa, OK. He enlisted in the Navy on Nov. 14, 1943, at the age of 17. Basic training and Hospital Corps training were at Farragut, ID. His next stop was at Oceanside, CA, where they transferred him to Fleet Marine Force training as a Marine. Then he was transferred overseas part of the first troops to land in Okinawa, Japan, when the Armistice was signed, September 2, 1945.

In Okinawa the Army was in charge, so he was considered part of the Army at that point.

He was proud to serve in all 3 branches of the service. He was discharged in January of 1947.

After his discharge, Randy met and married Carol Stark on August 7, 1948, in Casper, WY. Randy and Carol have 3 children, Larry, Marcy, and Nancy. Randy and Carol were blessed with 54 years together before Carol passed Sept. 6, 2002. They built, owned and operated Randy’s Camp Along and Conoco in Scottsbluff, NE. Service was Randy’s life.

He ran to wait on each and every customer; his service was always above and beyond.

He retired in 1990. He always loved attending the kids’ and grandkids’ activities. He was the Bridgeport First Ladies’ #1 fan. Randy was instrumental in much of the designing and building expansion of Minatare Church of Christ. He was always willing to help anyone and could fix anything.

Randy is survived by his children, Larry (Pat) Randolph, Marcy (Chip) Littlejohn, and Nancy and the late Clark Griffith; his 6 grandchildren: David (Blanche) Randolph of Hemingford, NE, Kaci Caldwell, Omaha, NE, Kevin (Angie) Figg, Scottsbluff, NE, Kelly Jo Griffith, Scottsbluff, NE, Taylor Littlejohn, Gillette, WY and Jessica Littlejohn, Omaha, NE. Also surviving him are 7 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren, and many valued nieces, nephews, and friends. He was also blessed with the friendship of Shirley Zorn of Pine Bluffs, WY.

Randy was proceeded in death by his parents, his wife Carol, 2 sisters, 5 brothers, special brother and sister-inlaw Bob and Clarice Bartling and son-in-law Clark Griffith.
