Commissioners approve mil levy for 2020-21

The County Commissioners met in regular session on Tues., Oct. 13, with Commissioner Batterman absent. After the approval of the agenda and minutes of the previous meeting, correspondences were read and claims approved.

The Board of Equalization met with Bayard Mayor Greg Schmall and Bayard Cemetery Chairman Roger Heigel to discuss the Bayard Cemetery. During the primary in May 2020, the voters in the Bayard Cemetery District declined to increase the mil levy that was proposed, which left Bayard cemetery with zero budget authority for the fiscal year 2020-2021. The commissioners honored the voter’s decision and negotiated a settlement, which allowed the cemetery to have the same mil levy they had in 2019-2020. At the general election on November 3, 2020, the ballot will include a measure that will request a seven cent levy, which is close to a one and a half cent increase, for funding of the Bayard cemetery for next year for the continuing operation of the Bayard Cemetery. Themil levies for Gun Morrill show County inform for 2020-2021 were then approved and adopted.
