Hoops, they did it again!
It was an exciting weekend for the local roundballers and their fans as the boys competed in the first of the decade 2020 Western Trails Conference tournament and finished first. In game one, played on homecourt Thursday night, the Bridgeport Bulldogs had their eyes opened when the Bayard Tigers won the tip off and immediately sunk a three pointer, forcing the dogs to chase the cats in a game of catch up. Bridgeport came back strong, then dominated the match in a colossal game of high speed keep-away as the Bulldogs scored 26 points in the first quarter alone, almost double what the Tigers put on the board.
Luis Garza put 19 points on the board, followed by Jake Wallesen, who scored twelve and grabbed five boards, and Cole Faessler with eleven points and five rebounds. Braxten Swires added nine points and Braeden Stull, one of two freshmen on the team, sunk eight points while Brady Newkirk put up the score by seven and grabbed four boards. Mason Nichols and Luis Garza each had six assists and four rebounds.
