By now many of you have heard about the new sex education standards being proposed to the Nebraska Department of Education. These new standards would teach children as young as five yearsold about gender identity and same gender families.
The Nebraska Economic Forecasting Advisory Board says it anticipates the state will take in $204 million more in tax receipts this year than previously anticipated. The governor says that means “we can deliver even more property tax relief on top of what I had already proposed in my budget.”
Since taking office as Governor, property tax relief has been my top priority. That’s because high property taxes continue to be the number one concern I hear from Nebraskans. This legislative session, Senators have a golden opportunity to give Nebraska families the relief they need. Nebraska’s economy has been resilient through the pandemic, resulting in strong tax revenues. This sets the stage for the Unicameral to deliver major property tax relief.
When my boys were younger and ready to quibble over the last piece of cake, I would advise them to share. I would ask one to cut and the other to choose first.
