FFA holds annual Red Cross blood drive
The Bridgeport Chapter of the FFA held their annual Red Cross blood drive in the old gymnasium at the school on Tuesday, March 16. Appointments were filling up fast as the day began, with several people pre-registered to donate. The student volunteers were organized and cheery as they ran the checkin and checkout desks, as well as helped set up and take down the equipment used. The blood donated will be taken back to North Platte to be processed. A dozen tests are performed on each unit of donated blood to type them and check for infectious diseases at one of the Red Cross’ National Testing Laboratories. Parts of the blood can be frozen and stored for up to one year.
