Sterkel receives scholarship to attend South Dakota School of Mines

Baylor Sterkel, son of Brad and Tracy Sterkel, is this year’s recipient of the Jim and Connie Scholarship. Sterkel will receive this $4,000 award which is given to a graduating senior from Bridgeport High School who will be attending South Dakota School of Mines. Sterkel plans to major in mining engineering. This scholarship can be renewed up to 5 years provided that the recipient remains a full-time student and maintains a minimum 2.8 grade point average.

Elementary students perform concert

Last Tuesday night in the Bridgeport auditorium, the elementary students took center stage with their various musical talents. The Kindergarten students started things off with a few of their favorites, followed by the 1st and second graders each singing four of their own songs. The third graders wowed the audience with their recorder selections, including “Walk Like a Mummy” and “Baba Oo La La,” as well as every starting musician’s favorite, “Hot Cross Buns.” The sixth-grade band showed off their hard work with “Midnight Mission,” “Dragon Slayer” and “Crash Cymbal Concerto” starring Olivia Corman with the heavy copper clangers.

Sunday afternoon proved to be a fun time at Bowl Dog Lanes with artist Nikole Leonard, also known as The Paint Lady, as she hosted a family fun day paint party. With 25 people in attendance, the place was busy with kids and adults alike enjoying each other’s artistic designs, one person traveling from as far away at Ft. Collins, Colorado to join in the fun.

SCOTTSBLUFF—The West Nebraska Arts Center, with the support of the Nebraska Arts Council and the Nebraska Cultural Endowment, is pleased to present an exciting collection of original art from Western Nebraska Community College Students in our Bronson Gallery. The exhibit is open to all Western Nebraska Community College students enrolled in the 2020/2021 school year.
