Jim Vassos was spotted in front of the library on Wednesday with a shovel in hand, fixing up the gardens on the west side of the building. Vassos said they removed the grass that had grown up among the rocks, took out a couple of overgrown bushes and raked the dirt flat. He had the city guys bring over some mulch from the pile they maintain, in order to keep the moisture in and the weeds out. The cool morning made it ideal to work in the garden, and it was much improved when he was finished. SARAH STRAWN
