The ground-and-pound attack of the Bridgeport football team continued to gain steam on Friday night as the Bulldogs rolled to a 47-6 win over visiting Sutherland. It marked the second straight game in which the Bulldog offense piled up over 300 rushing yards, despite missing their 6’5”, 250-pound senior Logan Bartling, who left game two with a knee injury and hasn’t been back.
The Bridgeport High School football team again made history, this time on Friday night at Maxwell, earning its first win at the 8-man level. Kason Loomis rushed for 283 yards and made six touchdowns to lead the Bulldogs to a whopping 62-26 victory over the Wildcats.
The Leyton Warrior football team is off to a good start this season, despite the transfer out of two of their teammates and the loss of eight former seniors to graduation last spring.
Five Rocks Amphitheater was the sight of the Gering Invite last Friday when Bridgeport and Leyton competed. Neither team placed, but Lady Bulldog Madison Ribble placed first in the 5,000-meter women’s varsity run with a time of 22:33.88, a full ten seconds ahead of second place runner Dakota Horstman of Hemingford. Bethany Nichols was next in line for the Lady Bulldogs, with a time of 27:53 and Taylor Bright with 28:21.
Bridgeport welcomes new junior high science teacher Amanda Reilly to the district. Reilly, born at Ft. Carson, Colorado and raised in Dalton, Nebraska, graduated from Leyton High School before attending Black Hills State University in Spearfish, South Dakota to obtain her bachelor’s degree in Education.
