Speech team earns runner-up at Gordon-Rushville

The Bridgeport Speeches left before dawn on Saturday, January 29, to compete in the Gordon-Rushville Invitational, earning the Class C/D Runner Up spot overall. Fourteen students competed, many in multiple events, with the following results: In Duet Acting, Claire Linders and Tegan Rice placed 1st, Drew Leisy and Trinity Flores placed 5th. In Entertainment, Brooklyn Bates placed 4th, Extemporaneous say Cassandra Hopwood at 5th place.

For the second straight year, the Bridgeport High School girls basketball team captured the championship of the South Platte Valley Association (SPVA) Tournament this past weekend in North Platte. The Lady Bulldogs rolled past both of their opponents to improve to 14-1 on the season. In the semifinals, Bridgeport posted a 70-45 win over Hershey, then were just as dominant in the title game on Saturday when they downed North Platte St. Patrick’s by a score of 77-47.

Bridgeport Boys and Girls, and Leyton teams wrestled Saturday, January 15 at Chase County’s invite, with 26 teams competing for a title and a spot on the podium. Bridgeport Girls placed 14th overall with 44 points, while Leyton placed 18th with 28 points and Bridgeport boys, 19th place with 27 points.

Bridgeport High was the weekend site for the MAC Tournament, hosting basketball teams from eight area schools. Leyton came away with 3rd place for both their boys and girls teams. The boys lost by seven in the Thursday night game against Bayard. Justin Ernest had 13 points, while KJ Bush had 11, including three 3-pointers. Bush also pulled down 12 rebounds. The final score was 50-43.
